i took a trip! read about it here.

evidence of my lame yuppie side on my (gasp!) house blog here.

11” x 17” CMYK poster for the Superchunk show. As you can see, I’m still heavily into messy paint splotches, and am nurturing an ongoing obsession with Venn diagrams.

A couple of new CJLO related goodies in my portfolio, including this, which we’re hoping to silkscreen on heavy paper and have for sale offstage (all proceeds to go to CJLO, naturally).

It’s audit time on my show tonight… everyone I play on BVST tonight between 7 and 9pm gets paid a few extra cents on their next performance royalty cheque (or so the theory goes). You can expect heavy CanCon, lots of my friends and favorites, and a couple of defunct bands that I love dearly. Which brings me to my question… if I play long dead bands like the Bitchin’ Camaros, Scissorfight, Kill Cheerleadër, Cursed, Cobra Noir, etc., do they still get paid?

I went to Australia! Yeah, I know, old news, but here’s more documented proof, in the form of a neat video diary made by the Reverend Moose from CMJ about the WAMi Music Conference in Perth, Australia. He interviews me around the two and half minute mark. Notice the CJLO shirt!

Alright, that’s enough Fantasia for one day…

Now I’m going to go and start working on the CJLO DJ schedule. This year, as with the past 5 years, CJLO will provide DJs who will spin live between films in the Hall theatre. We’re at the back, all the way up by the projection booth, so come say hi! if you like what we’re playing.

Also, don’t miss the party this Friday at Terrasse St Ambroise… it’s the official Fantasia program launch at the McAuslan brewery by the Lachine Canal. CJLO is bringing the tunes, and the trailers will be projected on the side of a truck with the spooky backdrop of a nearby abandoned factory. There will be BBQ and delicious McAuslan beers available (I’m hoping they’ll have their new seasonal raspberry available!), and you can pick up your program, DVD and tshirts that night! Everything starts at 8, and the party will be held indoors next door at the Centre St.Ambroise in case of rain.

The CJLO ad I designed opposite the write up for [REC] 2… After the success of the first [REC] film (and its semi-respectable American remake Quarantine), this film is bound to be a huge draw, with two screenings in the Hall theatre (July 20th at 10pm, and July 22nd at 3pm).

things that are on my mind (the paragraph edition):

The Descent is on Showcase right now. This is one of my all time favorite films, and quite possibly my favorite Fantasia film ever. Neil Marshall has a new movie, and I have a strong suspicion it’s gonna be at this year’s festival… it’s called The Centurion. Still haven’t seen The Descent 2, though. Also, in other news, this movie should not be broken up by commercials.

Dollar Cinema is showing a Romero double feature starting at 11pm on Saturday. Just tossin’ that out there for any film nuts who might be interested (I think you know who you are).

I’m also thinkin’ that we should do some brekkie at the usual place at noon on Saturday maybe followed by either Zombie Strippers or videogames at Number 9, so drop me a line if yr interested.

There was an earthquake today. 5 point something, and I felt NOTHING. i guess it’s a good thing that the shocks on the car are that effective.

I’m gonna guest co-host on Grade A Explosives tomorrow. Since it’s St Jean, and Andrew is a godless American, provincial laws require that his show be broadcast in both languages, so I’ve kindly volunteered to help out with the translation. Tune in for bilingual hijinks from 2 to 4 pm ET.

In case you were wondering, yes, I did interrupt my set halfway to play all of First Blood by the Chainsaw Hookers. I figured the powers that be wouldn’t take too kindly to me playing it over and over, so this was a healthy compromise.

La tortura.

Went to bed at 1:30. It is now 6. Haven’t slept a wink.

Fuck this.

In other news, I’m DJing tonight, Katacombes, CJLO punk night, the usual drill. Beers still cheap. I think I’m doing an hour and a half from 10:30, so by my calculations that means I can play Chainsaw Hookers’ First Blood 6 and half times.

White Cowbell Oklahoma Warts N’ All Bootleg Series mp3 #1. Recorded live at CJLO studios, Montreal Oct 30, 2009.

Hear the boys kill this cover of Funkadelic’s Hit It & Quit It as part of a session that originally aired on my show, BVST [Wednesday 7 to 9 ET on CJLO 1690 AM / cjlo.com - yr best (and worst) of rock’n’roll, country, punk & metal… how’s that for a plug?]. I have video of this somewhere too… If ya like it, you can download it here.
